Because I’m thinking it’s only been two weeks since I last posted but it’s actually been three. Shit.
Wedding stuff was going as good as can be expected. Steve ordered some clothes, we hashed out our menu, I chose a hair and make-up person. And then I get home from work this past Friday to an email saying we’ve lost our reception venue. We’ve been in contract for over a year at this point and the wedding is four and a half months away.
. . .
I really can’t think about it too deeply because it’s taking all my strength to keep back and raging kaiju that wants to erupt. What I will say is we have a phone call with the event coordinator on Tuesday to go over alternatives. She’s already falling over herself to apologize and it really isn’t her fault (the owners want to start construction a week before the wedding, are you &^^$%&& kidding me???) so I’m hopeful everything will work out. One of our alternatives is actually a nicer venue than what we have now; it would just depend on the terms. We’ll see.
I’m on the verge of getting the final copy of at least the eBook cover for my book, now called CURSE OF STARS (because NEW FUTURE WEAPON is actually a better fit for book two so, of course, I had to come up with a new title for book 1). It pretty much took me nearly all of these three weeks to come up with a title and a new blurb for the book. The blurb damn near killed me.
God, I hate blurbing. With the passion of a thousand fiery suns, I hate blurbing.
But I got it done. Now we’re just tweaking the cover just slightly. Of course I realized after the fact that I went about the cover completely assbackwards and my designer can’t get me the print version of the cover until I know final page count and cover dimensions. Those things would help, wouldn’t they? If only I weren’t still editing the first book. Oops. Something to keep in mind for next time.
I stopped running the manuscript through CC only because it was taking way too long to get the chapters into the queue. I did upgrade my membership but I only know, like, three people on the site, all who critique in the queue anyway, so creating my own queue to invite people to wouldn’t work. Plus the last time I went to post a chapter to the public queue there was a two week wait. Nope. I’m hoping to find a couple critique partners through Maggie Stiefvater’s search thing she does. So far two are still going so we’ll see there.
On the body products stuff I’m now making bath bombs and candles. And by making I mean experimenting and trying to not make everything all fucked up. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
That’s about it for right this second. This last week was kind of hell for me but going forward, unless the world ends, it shouldn’t be too bad. I’m hoping to make at least an ARC-level draft ready for CoS and the first draft of book 2 done by the end of summer. I feel like that’s a solid marker for things, and then I have the wedding and time off to recharge.
Recharging is nice.
