Zogby, together with Random House, released a poll back in May centered around average American reading habits, ranging from their purchasing patterns to what medium they like to read into how much they’re reading. The overwhelming majority of people that answered the poll stated that they prefer lounging around with a tangible book than reading via new mediums, be it online directly, a Kindle or any other digital means of reading. It’s easy enough to determine what questions they asked so I figured I’d answer them myself to see where I stand with the “norm.” If you feel like answering these, whether on your own blog or in the comments section, by all means, help yourself. Maybe I’ll start a meme. Or not.
Since the poll is sectioned off by sex and age, I might as well start with that. I’m female and 25.
What is your prefered method of reading?
I’ll choose a book I can actually sit with over anything else if given the choice. I love books but I’m not going to shun other mediums. I do read online fiction, including original serials and fanfiction but I’ve yet to get a Kindle or eBook. I’m just not there yet.
How often do you go to a bookstore to purchase books?
Every once in a while. I usually buy a bunch at a time and it takes me a little while to get through them. I’d say a few times a year considering the amount I buy each time.
What’s your purpose when going to a bookstore?
Aside from buying books? The last time I went I was looking for something very specific and didn’t find it. The few times before that I had gift certificates and wanted to use them. Sometimes I go for something specific in mind but more often than not, I just go to browse and see what catches my eye.
Do you ever buy more than you intended initially?
Every once in a while my self control will be working but usually I walk out with a stack when I only came in for one thing. Ironically that happens to me at Target a lot too.
