NaNo Hath Begun

Officially it started on Saturday and that’s when I tried to officially get the word count widget to work.  You think I’ve been able to get onto the NaNo site for any length of time to figure it out since then?  That would be a no.  I’m trying, but it’s taking days.  Apparently, for NaNo, that’s normal.  I’m actually going back and forth between this post and checking for technical answers on that.  Hopefully someone can figure out why my profile has the default participant ID number instead of an actual user ID number.  Ugh.  Have I ever mentioned how not a fan of technology I am?

Anyway, Earth Shatterer is off to a decent start.  I’ve goaled myself into writing a chapter a day for the story.  As it stands now, no way that book is going to be 30 chapters long so if i stick to the goal, I’ll finish the book.  Really, that’s my aim as opposed to word count.  It’d be nice to meet the word count but finishing the book comes first.  If I hit 50,000 in the process, yay!

As the first two days of November have already passed, the first two chapters are already written and I have to say, I’m happy with the pacing as I’ve written it so far.  The story actually starts in chapter two as opposed to chapter-maybe-double-digit in Diamond Crier.  But that’s what editing’s for, right?  Not to mention DC was a complete learning process for me and it took me quite a few months to get a foothold on the story and stop smothering the voice the story actually wanted to be written in.  So I have a feeling this one might come out just a little easier.  I hope.

So that’s where I stand at the moment.  Two days in and I’m on track.  Lets see how the rest of the month goes.

And I just found out that the widget is actually working properly and I just had no idea that the page I took it from automatically showed your user ID in the widget code.  Convenient!  And no insane coincidences involved!  Granted the widget still isn’t displaying my name like it should but at least I had it right.
