This is going to be a gushing post about The Lost Boys. If you can’t stomach that, turn away now. If you can, you’re my new best friend.
I’ve been a rabid Lost Boys fan since I was 11. Saw it for the first time on TNT when they were doing a late-night showing of it with the two Coreys hosting. It was awesome and I was immediately hooked. In the 23 years since then I’ve been to Santa Cruz I don’t know how many times (the main filming location for the movie), I’ve been to cons and befriended some of the cast members, I’ve gotten a Lost Boys tattoo, I’ve amassed a huge collection of memorabilia, written a pile of fanfiction, and set up a fansite that’s been running for ten years now. Not to mention the forum fandom I’ve hopped around on over the last decade or so.
So yeah. Obsessed. Love it so much. I was less than impressed when Warner Brothers tried to make a shitty sequel, The Tribe. Like really shitty. Like so shitty straight to DVD that when they made the third movie they pretended that second one didn’t exist. So they gave us The Thirst and they actually listened to fan input a little and gave us something that wasn’t a total turd. I’m even a fan of the comics, both the Reign of Frogs and the latest releases, aptly titled The Lost Boys. And now Rob Thomas is producing a TV show for the WB. If I go in with no hopes, I can’t get them up, right?
And now the fandom is getting something we’ve been waiting for for a long time: a behind-the-scenes book. Paul Davis, the guy who did BEWARE THE MOON, a behind-the-scenes movie book for An American Werewolf in London, is creating LOST IN THE SHADOWS, our very own Lost Boys book. It’s going to be filled with tons of never-before-seen photos from the set and production, interviews with cast and crew, and he’s even going to visually recreate every single deleted scene from the movie. OMG TAKE MY MONEY!!!
All this just in time for the 30th anniversary of the movie itself, released July 31, 1987.
So of course my brain starts running and I’m like I WANT TO DO SOMETHING FOR THIS. So I start brainstorming and I run things by Paul and he gives his seal of approval and then The Lost Boys 30th Anniversary Fanfic Contest Extravaganza was born!
It’s an event I’m holding on Wattpad that’s basically going to be months worth of fandom fun, including a bunch of contests to win things like sets of original press kit photos from the movie, sets of my Lost Boys-inspired lip balm, books inspired by the movie, and the piece de resistance, a copy of Paul’s book signed by members of the cast and crew. Ugh. I can’t wait.
Not to mention I’m stocking up on people behind the scenes to help me with all this and they’re as stocked as I am about it. Love me my Lost Boys fandom nerds. So if you’re on Wattpad, check it out. If you’re not on Wattpad, create a free account and check it out then. If you’re at all a fan of The Lost Boys you’re not going to want to miss this!
